Why Strip Metadata Before Sharing Photos?

Many phones embed the exact GPS coordinates of where a photo was taken directly into the file by default. If you share that original photo somewhere that doesn't strip metadata automatically, anyone who downloads it can find out precisely where it was taken. Most major social media platforms strip this data on upload, but many messaging apps, personal websites, cloud drives, and marketplace listings do not. Stripping metadata before sharing — especially for photos taken at home, at work, or anywhere you'd rather not disclose — is a simple, one-time precaution rather than something to rely on a platform to handle for you.
