Most photos from cameras and phones carry hidden metadata called EXIF — including the camera or phone model, the lens and exposure settings used, the date taken, and sometimes the exact GPS coordinates of where the photo was captured. This tool reads and displays that data so you can inspect it directly, and also lets you download a clean copy of the photo with all of that metadata stripped out. Everything happens locally in your browser; the photo and its metadata are never uploaded anywhere.

Why EXIF Data (Especially GPS) Matters for Privacy

Many phones embed the exact GPS coordinates of where a photo was taken directly into the file by default. If you post that original photo somewhere that doesn't strip metadata, anyone who downloads it can find out precisely where it was taken — which can reveal your home address, workplace, or daily routine without you realizing it. Most major social media platforms strip EXIF data automatically on upload, but many messaging apps, personal websites, and file-sharing services do not. If you're sharing a photo somewhere you're not sure about, it's worth checking its metadata first (or just using this tool's "Download Without Metadata" option) before sending it.
