About Image Converter
This tool converts images between PNG, JPEG, and WEBP formats, with adjustable quality for lossy formats. Upload nearly any image type — including GIF and BMP — and convert it to the format you need, with a live before/after preview and file size comparison. All conversion happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API; your images are never uploaded to a server.
Choosing the Right Image Format
PNG uses lossless compression and supports transparency, making it the right choice for logos, icons, screenshots, and graphics with sharp edges or text — but file sizes are typically larger for photos. JPEG uses lossy compression tuned for photographic images, producing much smaller files at the cost of some detail and no transparency support, which makes it the standard choice for photos on the web. WEBP is a more modern format that generally achieves smaller file sizes than both PNG and JPEG at equivalent quality, and supports transparency like PNG — its main tradeoff is slightly less universal compatibility with very old software, though virtually all modern browsers support it well.
