About Background Remover
This tool removes the background from an image using two different methods, and lets you replace it with a transparent or solid color background. All processing happens locally in your browser — your images are never uploaded to a server.
AI Mode vs. Color-Based Mode
AI mode uses an in-browser machine learning model to detect the main subject in your photo and separate it from the background automatically, regardless of what that background looks like — a person, a product, a pet, against a busy or complex scene. Because the model runs entirely on your device, the first use in a session may take a moment while the model downloads and initializes; after that, it's cached by your browser for faster repeat use.
Color-based mode (sometimes called chroma key or "green screen" removal) works instantly with no model download, but only works well when your background is a single, fairly consistent color — like a plain white or colored studio backdrop. It removes any pixel close enough to your chosen color, with adjustable tolerance and edge softness to control how aggressively it cuts and how smooth the resulting edges look.
