About Text to Speech (TTS) Reader
This tool reads any text aloud using your operating system's own built-in voices — the same technology behind screen readers and accessibility features on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android. Paste your text, pick a voice and adjust the speed, pitch, and volume, then press Play. Because this uses your browser's native Web Speech API directly, no text is ever sent anywhere — the audio is generated entirely on your own device.
Browser Notes and Known Limits
This tool relies entirely on the voices your browser and operating system already provide, so the available voices, their names, and how natural they sound will vary depending on your device — a Mac will offer different voices than a Windows PC or an Android phone, and some browsers even offer higher-quality cloud-based voices that require an internet connection. Long text is automatically split into smaller sentence-based chunks and read back-to-back, which works around a known issue in some browsers (particularly Chrome) that otherwise cuts off speech after a short time. On iPhones and iPads, Safari requires you to press Play yourself before any audio can start — this is an Apple restriction on all audio and video, not a bug in this tool. If your browser tab loses focus or goes to the background for a long time, playback may pause or stop; simply bring the tab back and press Play or Resume. Firefox for Android does not currently support text-to-speech at all, regardless of which tool is used.
