Why Character Limits Matter
Different platforms and formats enforce different length limits for good reason. SMS messages are capped at 160 characters because that was the original technical limit of a single GSM text message. Social platforms like X (formerly Twitter) cap post length to encourage concise, skimmable content. For SEO, search engines typically display only around 50–60 characters of a page title and 150–160 characters of a meta description in search results — content beyond that gets cut off with an ellipsis, so keeping key information within those limits helps your listing display fully and read well.
