About YAML to JSON Converter
This tool converts YAML — the configuration format used by Kubernetes, Docker Compose, GitHub Actions, Ansible, and many other DevOps tools — into JSON, and back again. Paste or upload a file and the conversion updates instantly. All processing happens locally in your browser using a standards-compliant YAML parser; your configuration files are never uploaded to a server.
YAML vs. JSON: What's the Difference?
JSON is a strict, minimal data format — every string needs quotes, every object needs braces, and there's no support for comments. YAML is a superset built for human readability: it uses indentation instead of braces, allows unquoted strings, supports comments with #, and adds features JSON doesn't have, like multi-line strings and anchors/references for reusing values. This is why YAML is the format of choice for configuration files people edit by hand — like Kubernetes manifests or CI/CD pipelines — while JSON remains the standard for data exchanged between programs (like API responses), where strict, unambiguous parsing matters more than human readability. Since YAML is technically a superset of JSON, any valid JSON is also valid YAML — but not the other way around, which is why converting YAML to JSON can occasionally fail if the YAML uses features JSON has no equivalent for.
