How This Works, and What to Expect
An EPUB file is essentially a ZIP archive containing a set of web pages (HTML and CSS) — one of Claude's underlying tools already handles turning HTML into a PDF, and this converter builds on exactly that: it unpacks the EPUB, reads its manifest to find every chapter in the correct reading order, and combines them into one document, which is then rendered the same way a browser would display it and placed into a PDF as a high-resolution image.
This means text in the resulting PDF cannot be selected, searched, or copied — it's visually identical to the original layout, but functions like a scanned page rather than a text document. Most EPUB files convert well, but a few things can affect the result: custom fonts embedded in the EPUB may fall back to a default font, very long books will take longer to render and produce a larger PDF, and DRM-protected EPUB files (common for e-books purchased from major retailers) cannot be opened by this tool at all, since their content is encrypted in a way this tool has no way to unlock.
